Another trip to Boston
Jill and I planned a trip in to Boston. We wanted to see how long it would take the both of us to get in to work.
But, on the way to the bus stop, we saw a yard sale and decided to stop. We ended up with a great deal on a great bookcase, table, chairs, and a buffet thing. We got the table and the extra leaves in the car, but were trying to figure out how we were going to get the rest of the stuff home. We unloaded the table and noticed that someone was in the backyard with a dog--weird!
I went up to talk to him and found out that he was the son of our landlords, in for a visit from New Hampshire. Then I thought--there was a pickup truck with New Hampshire tags that I hadn't seen on the street befored, parked two houses down--and I asked him, "You don't happen to drive that pickup truck, do you?" And, he did.
Jim helped us go get the rest of the furniture. It was a blessing; he's a great guy.
So, after moving our new furniture in, we were finally ready to get downtown. We got on the bus, #73 from Waverly Square, and rode it to Harvard Square. There, we bought 7-day passes and boarded the Red line and rode it several stops to Park Street station and switched to the Green line. We picked the wrong subway and ended up waiting about 10 minutes for another Green line train because the one we boarded stopped at Goverment Center--we wanted to ride the Green line a few more stops to North Station.
We wandered our way down Commercial Street (see all of our pictures in the album below) and found the building for ** censored **. Then, we wandered around the area for a little while, then took the subway again to find out where Jill will start working. We took the Green line from North Station to Government Center and walked for a few minutes (the Government Center subway exit/entrance is in the picture with City Hall in the background) and saw Jill's work, 100 Cambridge Street.
Then, we saw the red line in the ground and started following the freedom trail. That's where we saw the graveyard, the church, and the other monuments (we took pictures of them along the way).
Eventually, we made our way back to the Government Center station, rode the Green line to the Red line and took the Red line back to Harvard Station, caught the 73 back to Waverly Square. We walked the few minutes back to home and then drove to find a place to eat to finish our night out.
We found a place call Mandarin Schezchuan or something like that. It was the most incredible Chinese food I have had in a really long time. I had chow fun--the noodles were made tonight right there in the restaurant; it was divine. Jill had an excellent crispy sesame beef. We also had some chicken skewers with peanut sauce and vegetable tempura. Everything was excellent. And there was so much of it--which surprised us since the prices were very reasonable. We had the whole restaurant to ourselves (it was a little later than the normal dinner hour), although about 10 people stopped by for take-out. Needless to say, they got a good tip from us. Jill's fortune said, "Perhaps you've been focusing too much on yourself." My fortune said, "When the moment comes, take the last one."
We came home, put our left-overs in the fridge, and sat down on the new chairs to watch an episode of West Wing.
